Emily Aleman

Emily Aleman, PA-C, serves as the primary provider at the Franciscan WorkingWell and HEALTHeACCESS clinic in Carmel, where she supports a diverse patient population that includes occupational health patients, employer-sponsored primary care members, and walk-in urgent care needs. In her role, she provides injury evaluation and treatment, new-hire physicals for Franciscan Health, wellness care, and same-day urgent care services. Her work allows her to bridge multiple clinical settings, giving patients a consistent, trustworthy point of contact for their everyday health needs.

Emily began practicing medicine as a Physician Assistant in 2006 and brings nearly two decades of clinical experience to her work. She joined Franciscan in early 2025, drawn to the organization’s mission, its patient-centered care model, and the opportunity to make a meaningful difference within employer-based healthcare. Prior to earning her PA degree, she completed a Master of Science in Medical Studies and Biology at Purdue University, building a strong foundation in science, research, and human biology that continues to support her analytical and evidence-driven approach to patient care.

She completed her Physician Assistant training at Butler University, where she developed a deep appreciation for the balance between clinical rigor, empathy, and communication. That blend of skills shaped her philosophy early on, reinforcing her belief that medicine must treat the whole person and not just the symptoms they present. Her academic and professional background together allow her to understand both the science of medicine and the human experiences embedded within every patient encounter.

Emily was inspired to pursue medicine because of her longstanding desire to help others and to contribute to people’s lives in a meaningful way. She has always been drawn to work that involves problem-solving, education, and compassion. Being able to identify complex health concerns, ease a patient’s fears, and guide them toward better health is what she finds most rewarding. That sense of purpose still drives her today and shows up in every interaction she has with patients, families, and employers.

Her transition into occupational health grew naturally from her years of experience in primary care. Over time, she observed how strongly work environments and lifestyle factors influence a patient’s overall health. That insight sparked a passion for helping employees stay safe, preventing avoidable injuries, and addressing wellness in a way that supports people both at work and at home. She appreciates that occupational medicine offers a unique opportunity to reduce risk, promote healthier habits, and help employees return to work safely after injury or illness.

Preventive care remains one of Emily’s core clinical interests. She believes in identifying risk factors early, educating patients about lifestyle choices, and helping them understand the long-term value of health maintenance. Whether she is conducting a routine physical, interpreting labs, treating a work injury, or counseling a patient on wellness goals, she approaches every situation with the same commitment to early detection and clear communication.

Emily’s care philosophy is grounded in empathy, respect, and collaboration. She strives to make sure every patient feels heard, understood, and involved in their care plan. She takes the time to explain diagnoses and treatments in plain, accessible language so patients feel confident and empowered. She believes that the most effective care plans happen when patients are active participants in their own health decisions.

In the workplace context, Emily embraces a holistic view of health. She encourages patients to adopt habits that support long-term well-being, including stress management, ergonomics, fitness, and balanced lifestyle routines. She also appreciates the unique role WorkingWell and HEALTHeACCESS play in supporting both employees and employers. The integrated model of prevention, injury care, primary care, and wellness aligns closely with her values as a provider. She takes pride in being part of a program that strengthens workplaces, reduces barriers to care, and invests in long-term outcomes.

Emily also works closely with employers to support safer, healthier work environments. She sees occupational health not as a regulatory obligation but as a strategic investment. When organizations prioritize wellness, injury reduction, and early intervention, employees benefit from improved morale, lower stress, and better overall health. She enjoys educating employers about these benefits and helping them view occupational health as a proactive partnership.

She believes one of the biggest misconceptions about occupational medicine is that it only deals with injuries or compliance. To her, occupational health is much broader and touches every part of a person’s well-being. It is an opportunity to prevent chronic disease, support mental and physical resilience, and build workplace cultures that value health as part of everyday life.

For Emily, success is shared among the patient, the employer, and the clinical team. She measures it by reduced injuries, improved patient experiences, clearer communication, and healthier daily routines. On a personal level, she defines success through the relationships she builds and the trust patients place in her.

Emily values the opportunity to serve the Carmel community and the broader workforce of Central Indiana. She enjoys helping employees who keep local businesses running, and she finds it deeply rewarding to partner with employers who want to create safer, more supportive workplaces. She believes small changes in policy, practice, and education can make a meaningful difference in the health of a community.

Her team plays an essential role in creating a welcoming clinic environment. Emily is proud to work alongside colleagues who communicate openly, support one another, and maintain a shared commitment to patient-first care. She believes that mutual respect, teamwork, and consistent follow-through are the cornerstones of a smooth, compassionate patient experience.

What motivates Emily most as a provider is the opportunity to improve someone’s life through care, education, and meaningful connection. She carries with her a simple but powerful guiding principle: “Treat the patient, not just the disease.” It is a philosophy that anchors her in compassion and reminds her daily of why she chose this profession.

In a single sentence, Emily describes her purpose as a provider as caring for the whole person, body, mind, and spirit, with genuine compassion and respect. That mission, grounded in service and human connection, continues to guide her work every day at Franciscan.
